Support Our Soldiers

The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod has an extensive program of ministering to the armed forces, through its chaplain recruitment actions and other activities. The LCMS website has more information on this important work at this link. The LCMS has also put together information that congregations can use to keep our soldiers in our thoughts and prayers. See Resources for Congregations.

Men and women serving in the United States military face times of separation from their families, homes, communities, and churches. A simple care package can go a long way in helping our LCMS chaplains reach out and bring a degree of comfort to those soldiers. With simple daily items, chaplains can build relationships to spiritually support our service men and women. The LCMS has posted an extensive list of items that can be used in these care packages. Click HERE, or view the list that is posted on the bulletin board in our Fellowship Hall. The Board of Social Ministry has picked the following items from the LCMS list as most appropriate, but feel free to select your favorites from the LCMS list. A collection basket has been marked and is located in the Narthex.

    Care Package Items
  • Large baby wipes (soft packs; uncented)
  • Athletic foot medicine, such as Lotrimin
  • Black or White tube socks
  • Dental Floss
  • Disposable razors
  • Food snaks packaged in cans or plastic
  • Doritos (individual packages)
  • Cereals (individual packages), including oatmeal fun flavors
  • Gum - lots of it - reg and sugar free
  • Hard candy, mints, jolly ranchers (individual packages)
  • Cold drink mixes - powdered; pre-sweetened
  • Funnels to get drink mixes into canteens
  • Pens (black ink), stationary, post cards, greeting cards
  • Self adhesive envelopes
  • Holiday decorations (any event - from Dollar Store)

The Board of Social Ministry will see that the collected items are mailed to the chaplain designated by the LCMS Armed Forces office. At a later date, prior to shipping the items, we will ask that each member write a letter of appreciation or a card to our troops, which will also be placed in the package.

We may not have a loved one in the services; however, think of the person fighting for our freedom. They may not have a family back home which sends them anything; and your show of support will uplift their morale by letting them know that somebody cares.
